CONCEPT
"Spaghetti West End - The Legend Of Vinnie Saint" is the culmination of years of research on Blues guitarist Vinnie Saint, who mysteriously vanished after a series of successful performances at the Marquee Club in London in the late 60s.
Most of the information came from extensive interviews with Soho locals who met him personally, or have heard first hand stories about him, and by the few rare copies of his singles sometimes found at flea markets or vintage record stores around London.
It's the fascinating story of an enigma and an underdog who managed to be on the same bill with some of music's all time greats and then suddenly disappeared from history leaving no trace.
The Story
Soho, London, 1968: It's the golden era of British music and London is the musical center of the world. Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin all perform at the famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street.
A young Sicilian immigrant named Santo has travelled to England with the dream of becoming a professional musician.
To make ends meet he teaches music privately and plays at the Phoenix Revue, a small night club in Old Compton Street, the kind of club where drinks and conversations flow and nobody listens to the band. Santo lives a precarious life, hand to mouth, and barely manages to pay his rent.
One night, after a brawl at the club, he meets Rocco, a bouncer and a fellow Sicilian, who notices his talent and takes his story to heart, introducing him to Alberto DiMeo, a Scottish-Italian businessman with a love for music.
DiMeo, foreseeing a new potential source of income, offers to use his connections and manages to get Santo to debut at the Marquee. He is an instant success. All of Santo's dreams seem to finally be coming true.
But there's no such thing as a free lunch…
